Wipers go on randomly

Yesterday my wife and I went for a ride along the coast. A couple of hours went by thats when it started. The wipers would go on at random times.
I checked the intermittent wiper switch on the dash and it was turned off.
Anyone know whats going on?

wiper switch is the usual culprit.

It is a pretty easy DIY to pull the switch and clean the contacts. I did it a few weeks ago.

Cleaning may do it, or you may need to bend some contacts to their original configs. I think there are some threads showing pics of opened up switches.

You might want to check the flailing hands of the driver, that's the usual culprit!:D

I have the same problem sometimes when I adjust the mirrors and once in a rare time when I open or close the windows. Any ideas?

Moke81 11-24-2008 09:52 AM

I have bumped it several times before but thats not the case this time.
Also when the headlights are on it seems to be the time it does it, when the headlights are off the wipers don't come on........weird
I already replaced the turn signal switch can't be much harder than that.
Thanks for all the input.

Replaced wiper switch but problem still there. Also this problem happens with the headlights on.

check your grounds. It sounds like the lights are feeding through the wiper motor. same with the power mirrors and or windows.

i had one last week that cycled the wipers once each time you revved the engine from idle. light switch on only. wiper switch didn't fix it on that one either. shut off the lights, turned engine off, then started again and turned on the lights and then it wouldn't do it. i'm thinking the intermittent relay is getting a power surge, but i'll find out later this week.
