dumb (perhaps) air conditioning question

I may replace the air conditioning hoses on the '84.

Since this was supposedly the changeover year from flared to o-ring fittings, is there any way to tell which is which without undoing a connection and opening the system?

What type of compressor do you have, a York (probably flare fitting) a Nippondenso (Probably o-rings), a Seiki Seiko (probably flare fitting) a Sanden (Could be flare or o-ring).
