1991 Carrera 2
Hi. I recently bought a 1991 Carrera 2. Among other things, the radio was not working - completely dead. Since the previous owner had removed the battery for some period of time, I was also afraid that it would be in some kind of anti-theft mode. Long story short - I managed to removed the old radio (with help and direction I found on this web page, along with alot of swearing) and found the problem to be a blown fuse. The sound quality however was not good. Seems like only the driver side has any sound. A buddy of mine gave me a Blaupunkt Alaska with CD to replace the Blaupunlt Stuttgart with cassette that was previously installed. I see that the connections are different and was not able to find a harness or quick type of connector so my friend (I run an Engineering Team, so actually my friend is also my lead engineer) wired up the preamp block and added a jack for an IPOD. My problem is figuring out the wiring. I see on the old Stuttgart that the 7 pin DIN is labeled as a preamp. I though I could simple cut off the old female DIN connector and wire it directly to the Preamp block on the new Alaska. The wiring diagram on the radio gives the color code for the speakers but there are three other wires to deal with. Also, when I cut off the old DIN I see the following:
![]() So, any help or direction would be appreciated. Does anybody know where the preamp is located? I tried tracing the wire but apparently its not that simple. Or does anyone recognize the color combo displayed and can tell me what's what. Here's the original Stuttgart: ![]() ![]() Now here's the Alaska (connector view): ![]() And here are the wires from the dash/radio location: ![]() And zoom again on the bare wires after I cut off the 7 pin DIN:

Which one is the the preamp? Looks like three devices under there. Do you think I need to take the seat out (any direction on how to do that, if necessary?) I'm not especially tall but somehow I feel like Gulliver trying to work in the space provided. I realize I'm a noob but I'm willing to take it on, be adventurous - and I'm not totally clue-less. Would appreciate any help and /or direction

Yes, take the seat out. Four bolts. Two in the front of the slide rails, and two in the back. You will have to slide the seast back to get to the front ones, then slide it forward to get to the ones in the back. Then take a picture and post it. You should also have an alarm module and I cant rmember off the top of my head what else is under there.

Call Stefan at SW Stereo (www.swstereo.com). No one on this continent knows more about Blau radios and installations than he does. He'll make you up the adapter plugs that you need.
