Looks like a type 911 from '70-'71 with an earlier 912 mount.

What are the type number (911/0x) and the transmission number (7xxxxxx)?
These are stamped in the casting under the differential area.

Best,
Grady

Don,

There are numbers cast on the side that are casting numbers. They will typically have the form 911.xxx.xxx.ZR where "Z" is the casting revision. This probably should be zero in your case.

The type number and transmission number are actually stamped into the metal. There are two version of the type 911 casting; one with the numbers stamped in the rib under the differential and the other with a purpose rectangular pad cast under the differential.

For a type 911 transmission, the type number should be 911/00 for a 4-speed or 911/01 for a 5-speed. There are also types 911/80 (Standard - special option), 911/81 (Hill climb), 911/82 (Airport), 911/83 (Fast circuits) and 911/84 (Nurburgring ratios). One of these 911/8x would command a high price.

If the number "12" appears between the type and transmission numbers, it was originally fitted with a ZF LSD.

Angela, the 912 mounts were soft rubber and allowed a large degree of movement. There is a cast aluminum retainer over the rectangular rubber mount. This is to prevent the engine & transmission from falling out when the rubber fails.

Best,
Grady
