need help,difference early911 sheetmetal
hi everybody, i need help to identify some parts on my 1970 911, i will try to add a picture. i'm restoring my 911 and i need both floor pan, no problem for that, but the problem is for the outer rocker panel, front latch support . the car have a full turbo look with the look of 1974 +. i'm planning to install a brake booster at the same time i need to replace the sheet metal between the fuel tank and bulkhead. CAN I ORDER ALL THE PARTS FOR A 1974 911. On restaurationdesign.com the rocker panel are not the same in 1970 and 1974, same think for the suspension pan and gas tank support/lateral support. as i can see, the car ever had a 1974 front latch support, but for the other part, i can't say. hope you can help me.

many, many people will tell you not to destroy a beautiful '70 long hood car by making it look like an ugly bumper car...
some may even try to kill you.... most go the other way - not even sure if it is possible - doesn't the unit body nose stick out further on the early cars?? |

I believe his car has already been "updated"...
I know how it goes, the PO of my car did the IROC thing to my 1971 911S. I changed to all fiberglass and now have a 2000 pound race car. I like the IROC RS look with ducktail- dare I say, even better than a longhood? Apples and Oranges... It has grown on me. You can update or backdate, provided you have the sheetmetal, skill, time, and patience. The front bulkhead is longer on longhoods and the latch needs to be relocated. It is a lot of work. I think the poster wants to repair/replace the unit body panels on his already "updated" 1970 911.

Someone back in the '80s probably thought impact bumpers were a good idea and looked cool because the modern cars had them.
![]() ![]() He cannot easily put the correct parts on. He can go fiberglass IROC or he can go through the backdating like many on this board labor through with 911SCs or Carreras.

![]() ![]() About the Power Brakes, buy a "front luggage tray", from a later year so it accepts the brake booster. I think that started with the 78 911SC. This should be available from Porsche. I have had no luck with Restoration Design. They seem impossible to reach, and never return phone calls when you leave a message. Len ![]() |
