Racetracks in NJ?

Okay, I`ve reached the point were my 911 feels well sorted out enough that I would like to really see what she can give on a track. I do not plan on racing, just do a few laps and have fun. How do I go about this? Do I need to take class first? How much does it cost to do a few laps on a track? What is a good track in my area? (Red Bank, NJ).

Thanks,
Aurel

Well, there are likely no tracks open up north this time of year. I'd suggest you join the Porsche Club, select a region to participate in and go to a few meetings. You can learn about track events in the spring and what your region rules are for signing up, paying for the event, and what prep needs to be done for the car, and what you need (helmet that meets snell 2000 or newer rating).
There is a track in NJ: http://www.njmotorsportspark.com/

You will be assigned an instructor to teach you about safe driving at speed and that is all included in the price of admission. Typically, it runs about $400 a 2 day weekend and you usually get 4 - 20 to 25 minute runs a day. Doesn't sound like a lot of time but after your first day you're kinda worn out and realize it takes a while to work up to open track events where time on the track increases (as does the coast per day)

PCA CT Valley region usually has a day or two in March, weather permitting at Lime Rock in Salisbury CT. Nice track 1.53 miles. SCCA also does some track days there. Check their website.

Three PCA regions come to mind - Shattenbaum, Jersey Shore, and Northern NJ. They all have driver education programs and schedule track days at Pocono, Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Summit Point, and now New Jersey Motorsports Park. Join PCA, pick a region, and sign up for an event. You'll have a blast. When you want more track time per day check out www.chinmotorsports.com.
