"R" Homage - yellow 912

Can anyone assist in providing further details or the previous owners details for the 912 R for sale at Ace Auto sports.

following questions:

What history exists for the car
What documentation of the build exists
Was this the same car on ebay last April and the Samba for a considerably less price?

http://www.aceautosports.com/wordpress/?page_id=4

I understand that a Steve Turco may have been the owner who initiated the build

all assistance much appreciated.

Regards

Michel

Michel,

I am not 100% sure if this is the one that Steve Turco owned, but it sure looks like it. If it is indeed the one he owned, the car was restored for his daughters. I saw the car in person at Watkins Glen a few years ago. The car is gorgeous. The quality of the paint work is outstanding. We were so impressed with the paint, we had the same guy who painted this car do a bare metal re-spray on our 74 Carrera. He is located in Syracuse, NY. The overall fit and finish of the car is great. It will not disappoint.

I've seen this car in person numerous times over the past year or so since Johnny has owned it. It is a very nicely done car.

I would ask Johnny the questions you're asking above.

Its not Steve's car.. (Edit; I didn't read down before I posted...)

I'm also pretty sure the car has been sold... I inquired about it in October and was told the deal was all but done.

Followed (or rather attempted to follow) that car through Va. mountain backroads this past summer with Johny at the wheel. I would LOVE to own that car. Absolutely beautiful and very, very quick.

If ANY 912 is worth that kind of cake it's that one. (note this value is as a hot arse driver in beautiful condition; not as any sort of collectible IMO).

Car is VERY nicely done.

BTW i'd ask Johnny as well, my impression of him (just met him this past year but he was in the company of good people who don't tolerate scheisters) is that he is a great guy.

That car led the best drive i've had in my car.

I've seen that car several times at events in Richmond. It's an incredibly clean, beautiful car. Give Johnny a call, he loves to talk about it.

I too have seen this car on several occasions.. and know Johnny as well.

Don't know any history on the car nor do I know if it is still available. I can tell you however that the car is as described.. and very well done right down to the "912R" emblem onthe engine lid. Panel fit and paint finish top notch.. interior is also very well done.

If you want a 912, this would be a great one to have!

are those 15x7 fuchs on the rear? i thought those required a 69-77 narrow flare to fit.

Yes they're late 7x15 Fuchs. I spoke to Johnny about those and I remember him saying that there are BIG torsion bars back there to keep them from rubbing. I don't recall him saying if the fender lips are trimmed/rolled/pulled.

The 1968 wheel wells ( front and rear) are factory shaved at the tops to allow for the wider 5.5 wide rims for that year.

From all I am hearing Johnny is one of the good guys...and that the car is held in high esteem by all and sundry.

Johnny has provided some good info but i was seeking any other opinions and information form people who may have known the person who commissioned the build of the car etc

Also and not of concern but of great interest was the need to access actual photo documentation from the build and any prior history. Unfortunately It appears that none is currently available.

Nope. Here's a photo of my '65 912 with sevens and unflared (and unrolled) fenders. Tire size is 205/50-15.
