Steering wheel play - 3.2 Carrera
Hi Gang
How much play do you have in your steering column? I had the stock bushing disintegrate and a collar put in by my mechanic. It feels perfect at speed but has more play than I feel it had when stock. Is this normal? Is it a function of the mod or should I try again? I'm talking quarter inch or less -- but feels looser than stock which, unless I'm remembering nostalgically, had zero play. Thoughts? Thanks |

Play as in column wobble or play as in dead space during initial turning?

TheStIG -- sitting still = column wobble -- can move it a hint up down, side to side -- again, not much but enough that it's some

Replace that old 928 metal collar fix (it never was really that great) with a Mitch Leland
bearing fix unit. Your problems will disappear and it will feel like new! Pelican Parts - European Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche • BMW • Mercedes • Volkswagen • Audi • Saab • Volvo • MINI

Be warned, you get ONE chance to pound it in straight. Vacuum out any debris first. Consider lubing the new bushing before installing.

Drove mine in using a large deep well socket, piece of cake! Went in straight as a die.
