How did you attach your rubber hood/trunk latches?
 
The title says it all. After searching 3 different forums, I've seen rivets and drill, tap, and glue in a screw.

Did you trust your attachment method enough to remove the secondary catch on the hood? I had hood pins on my 912 vintage race car and got stopped once by an alert pit worker who noticed I forgot to put the clips back in. That would've sucked as I did trust them enough to remove the secondary catch.

rivets. no problems - including a 4 day rally with numerous jumps/air.

I used sheet metal screws into any blind area and machine screws/nuts/washers in accessible areas.

+1 on what Milt said.

I used machine screws on the rear "R" hinges for the duck tail and sheet metal screws for the rubber hold downs into both fiberglass pieces (duck and bumper). For the front I would lean a bit more towards the machine screws and nuts since you should be able to get to the area under the lop ledge of the bumper fairly easily.

Hi I used rivnuts (available in steel or aluminium) for all surface mounted features on my r car . They are available countersunk or flanged .

Couple of things:

1) I used sheet metal screws or nuts/bolts/washers (depending on location) on all of the rubber hold downs I've installed. I've had no problems.
2) On my personal car I did only the rear lid (which was fiberglass) and did not use a secondary latch
3) If you choose to remove the secondary latch it's probably a good idea to take out the hood shocks ... at least that way the hood won't "want" to go up.

Could someone post some pics of "RIVNUTS" installed? It's hard to tell exactly what's going on from the website.

Rivnuts install similar to pop rivets the exception is they are threaded to receive a bolt..

You need a tool to install them... I've used a collar of suitable dia, and a high strength hex head screw to set the rivnut

I went ahead and used rivets, but I think I'll order some RIVNUTS, drill out the pop rivets, and replace 'em.

I like the look. I used Randy's great pics of Chris' car in Excellence #158 as a guide for placing the latches on mine. And I did leave the secondary catch on the hood.

Looks good Rich!

Debating on whether or not to do them on my '67...

Not sure I am a good model to follow though on latch placement...I just riveted them on where I thought they looked good!

This might be obvious, but I suggest using rubber latches that only have stainless steel hardware (mounting plates and fasteners). Plated steel will eventually .... rust along with anything steel in contact with it.
