who creates the best 1973 rs clones?
hello all
please help me with a hopefully simple question... i have done some searching here on the forums regarding the clones but still have not been able to determine which company or person is considered the BEST or VERY HIGHLY recommended to create a cosmetically correct with few mechanical modern upgrades 1973 rs clone complete turnkey. the requirements are a nonsunroof galvanized body and a complete concourse showcar quality finish exterior and interior with 300+ hp to the wheels (3.2 liter motor?), lightweight , rollbar and 5 speed- i live in the usa thank you |

moneygrip, could you give us some details beyond what you already have? 300HP is not likely without lots of CC's or a turbo.

Best in the world is probably Autofarm in the UK.
In the U.S., besides TRE, there is also http://www.aircooledclassics.biz/ . |

300hp at the wheels is tough but with a 3.6 and some modifications it is very attainable. I would say 250hp at the wheels and it will be sufficiently powerful.

The owner creates the best one -- with help.
Where are you located? There are race/hotrod shops all over the US, and it is surely best to deal with someone local. YOu will need to have face to face discussion to get good feedback and avoid some common pitfalls. |

Your request presents a contradiction, you either want a hotrod with 300 rwhp or you want a RS clone 2.7 MFI.
Those are mutually exclusive. That being said there are more shops around the country that can build the hotrod to a high quality than can recreate the 2.7 RS accurately although both can be done. The primary issues with recreating a 2.7 RS would be finding the parts and someone with the knowledge of the originals, not impossible. I would suggest having conversations with some of the top shops, as RWEBB mentions you can start local to you. I would also suggest the www.early911sregistry.org and http://www.carrerarsregistry.com/ as sources for more research. |

thanks for the prompt responses guys!
i did a little more research www.psautoart.com has some cool backdated cars and lightweight clones (UK) looks like they had to use a 3.8 liter to get the 300 hp the PS 300 r does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds the PS 250 r uses a 3.6 liter and gets 250 hp and does 0-60 in 5.4 seconds something in between those cars would be good. 0-60 times are obviously NOT a measure of a cars performance but i wanted the clone to be able to be in the 5 second or sub 5 second times to keep up off the line with a few my other cars but without making the clone rear too heavy or resorting to a 45,000 motor or having it completely stripped like a track car or dedicated racer etc. i am not against a turbo if that is not too difficult. a lightweight car without all the modern computers of todays cars will be very fun even with 250 hp i am sure! but keep up the suggestions and it would be great if some guys had performance data to offer with their specific choices for clone engines Last edited by gqmoneygrip; 12-07-2008 at 10:42 AM.. |
