How to remove the frontbumber 911
Hi!
I need to remove the front bumber on my 911 carrera 87 to do some modifications, I know there is some step by step somewhere but yet I can't find it. Someone out there who can help/send me a link? Kjetil ![]() |

Me too. need to clean it up and repaint in the Spring. Other than some fiberglass RSR stuff is there a way to lighten the existing set up? While it's off what's the list of stuff to replace / re-do? I need the rubber strip in front of the trunk and probabaly new bellows.

I'll give it a bit of a go. You will need to remove the valance and bumper, either together or as seperate pieces. Next to the bellows in the front wheel wells there are those small plates that will need to be detached from the fender and to seperate the valance from the bumper. Small nuts and difficult to do but patience will get you there. The fogs come out from the front but when you remove the lens cover you will be able to see where to disconnect the wire and there is a bolt at the back of the fixture holding it to the valance. The rubber strip across the front of the bumper is held on by two screws, one either end of the bumper strip. Remove those and the strip will slide out either way. You have now exposed the front bumper impact shock bolts. Undoing those, one each side I think, will get the bumper off. You will need to remove the side marker and turn signal lights from inside the bumper as well as remove the tube to the headlight washer spray nozzle. It really is kinda straight forward, but you may also have to loosen the horns on the right side if you want to remove the valance first, then the bumper and also give you some room to get the right side turn signal and side marker.
I am sure I may have left out something but it is not that difficult a task and I did mine a couple years ago when I installed a new aftermarket valance.

I took mine off last winter (an 82SC) but it is likely similar. There are several items to detach/remove to be able to get the bumper off.
-turn signal light housings to get to screw holding down the ends of the front rubber strip, the parking light wires plug onto the back of this part. -bellows have 2 bolts top and bottom, mine cleaned up nicely. -front bumper rubber strip, screws at each end behind turn signal housings. -2 nuts each side that hold bumper to impact tubes (not sure of proper name) at this point it should be able to be wiggled forward. Be very careful as the headlamp washer tubing is still attached and needs to be disconnected. The rubber strip at the front of the trunk can be removed once the bumper is off. There are 4 screw up into the fender on each side and it is also connected to the main tub (and I do not remember how many screws). Good luck and remember patience is your friend and so is a camera and notebook to guide reassembly.

I just took the front bumper "loose" and slid it forward on my '88, to install a set of rubber impact (Euro) bumper strips to replace the side marker/signal lights; here's what we did: #1 - Remove the small nuts/washers that hold the side bellows on, then pull the bellows bolts out of the fenders. Take care not to scratch the paint! #2 - Carefully lift the front outboard edges of the front impact strip out - we used a plastic "ruler-like" tool to pop 2 of the plastic retainer clips CAREFULLY out of the front bumper on each side. This will reveal two bolts on each side that hold the bumper to the front of the car. Remove these four bolts; then you can carefully slide the bumper forwards (it helps to have an assistant, lovely or otherwise). If you have headlight washers, there will be enough "slack" to the hoses on this series of cars to come forward with the bumper ~6 inches; if you have to go further or totally remove it, you'll have to disconnect these hoses.
You don't want to remove that upper black bumper facia strip off if you don't have to, it's a PITA to R&R, so I'm told. In my case, this gave me enough room to access the rear housing attachment nuts/washers of my side markers, which I removed and replaced with the Euro impact strips - good luck! |
