I will probably get a set of new Hoosiers mounted on the Fuch 15's. Then get some Linea Fox wheels for the street during the summer.

Just a thought, put some street 205 /60's on the nice fuchs for the street. The 60s will soften the ride and give some clearance.

Then a set of cookies 7/15 w 2-5 Hoosiers or BFG R1's 205/50's for the track. They are very wide, sticky, and put the car down low. I know one hot shoe that ran 22/28's springs w a 22mm front, no rear sway in a narrow body. He was so fast. None of the Carrera 3.2 or SC's came close. He was about 2300 lbs w about 200hp.

Again, just a thought.

at some point Carrera side script might be in order.

911st-
I kind of like the david and goliath mantra, good stuff! You can have all the power and technology (and sponsors) in the world but, if don't have a car that's setup correctly. Or more importantly cannot drive, what's the use?!

Could do with some Carrera or Porsche side script, I like that '74 Carrera ducktail too....

Flieger 12-18-2008 08:33 PM

Carrera side scripts are over-used on replicas. It is just not right for a car to wear the stripes from a thoroughbred like the Carrera RS unless it has the performance to back it up.

roadrelic 12-18-2008 08:54 PM

Agreed, although I don't think I'd be making an over-statement in saying that this car would probably out handle any period "factory"Porsche rs car. And I've driven a few REAL ones....

Flieger 12-18-2008 08:57 PM

Your call...

I say if you can beat an RS through the twisties, you have earned the stripes.

Whats the Nordschlieffe time for a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7?

roadrelic 12-18-2008 09:28 PM

True, true but we can always make them better/faster/stronger then they ever were these days...

I know an RSR did it in 8:33.50 in '73 that included the gp track some 22.810KM in all. These days they don't count in the GP track (only 20.6KM!!!!), I believe this is only a marketing scam only to make the new cars appear to be MUCH faster than they actually are.

All this is besides the point, I just want to build a car man.....scratch the dang decals!

Put the money in the bank and don't start screwing with the car...

Ask me how I know....:D

+1. It is a great car already.

The best value is to keep them as bought, enjoy, then sell and buy a car that someone else spent a fortune on. Unfortuneately I am in the spent to much group.

roadrelic 12-19-2008 09:23 AM

As a matter of fact, I have a folder full of saved receipts on the car which add up to nearly $18K. I have been told by the shop which built most of the car (dart auto) that "alot of money was spent on that...", so I'm guessing maybe $23-25K in all . But as many of you know it's truly a labor of love these cars, and it's definitely more fun to build a car than buy one already done by someone else...
The past owner was probably in the "spent way too much" category, though when you stop and think about it with hourly shop rates these days ($65-80). Plus the parts, really $20-25K invested for a restored/competitive '74 track car isn't too bad... I hope to stay in the "spent enough" category, maybe with some ever so slight improvements made on the car :D

Bidding on this IROC clone stalled at $53,000 if that helps with the value question.
