NEW Porsche Racing Poster Book 'Porsche - Die Rennplakate: Von 1951 bis Heute'
Wayne,
Thank you for allowing me to post this announcement. All, About 4 years ago I contacted Porsche's Historisches Archiv and Mr. Lewandowski about working together on an updated and expanded version of his 1984 Porsche racing poster book: 'Porsche Plakate - Posters - Affiches'. After a few years of determining who exactly could publish the book, Delius-Klasing stepped up and we started research. Over the past 18 months I have gone through 21 private Porsche poster collections looking for racing posters missing from Porsche's extensive collection. There are over 35 new posters that date from 1951-1984 not to mention the hundreds of posters printed over the last 23 years. It is quite remarkable to see the artistic progression through the decades, especially now that each poster is reproduced in full color! My draft copy looks magnificent. During my search I uncovered the earliest factory commissioned poster ever found which commemorates Porsche's 1100cc class win at Le Mans in 1951 with a 356SL coupe. It has been said that this very early victory was the whole reason Erich Strenger started designing posters for Porsche in the first place. It is very likely that the '51 Le Mans 24 poster is the first. If you have any questions regarding the bilingual (German/English) 'Porsche - Die Rennplakate: Von 1951 bis Heute' please ask away. ![]() Last edited by Carl Bauer; 10-17-2008 at 07:08 AM.. |

We should all stand up and thank Carl. He was the primary driving force in coaxing Lewandowski, Porsche AG and the publisher to get this 2nd. Ed. in print. He also spent hundreds of hours chasing down the 1st Ed. missing posters. His name should be on the cover.
This is a “Must Have” book for any serious Porsche person. Probably #2 after Ludvigsen’s 2nd Ed. I have mine on order from Pelican fbarrett at Toad Hall Motorbooks. Best, Grady

petevb,
Pelican will probably have the book for sale and as this is their BBS I would direct sales to them. If they decide not to carry it most specialty automotive booksellers will carry the new poster book so you shouldn't have to look to far. The European pricing is 50 EUR so I would expect that to convert to something close to $75 - $80. Of course it's up to the bookseller to establish a price here in the US. Grady, Thank you for your comments; I really enjoyed looking for those 'missing' posters. ![]() |

I suspect that booksellers here in the US should have their copies of the racing poster book shortly if not already as mine have arrived from Germany today.
The print quality is fantastic and the book is a quality item. Seeing every racing poster in color in the same place at the same time is really a treat! My work on this book wouldn't have been possible without help from some here on Pelican Parts like Frank Barrett (fbarrett) and Grady Clay. Thank you guys. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Rico, If Wayne decides to make the book available through Pelican Parts I would strongly urge you to support our host and purchase the book through them. If Pelican decide not to carry it there are many specialty bookstores who will carry it... Frank Barrett's Toad Hall Book (www.toadhallbook.com) is one of them. In some ways you can treat the book like a catalog. Find the poster you like the most and check Frank's website or call to see if he has an original copy of it! |

For those who speak German it looks like we got a bit of coverage in Stern magazine (sort of like Newsweek in Germany)

Subscribed for updates when it becomes available through Pelican.
![]() Is this a limited edition book? It's on my Xmas list (right at the top, in fact) but if I don't get it then, will enough still be around after Xmas? I don't want to miss out on this one. Cheers!

Doug,
It's not a limited edition although with the release date being close to Christmas it may get tough to find in December... |

I got mine this weekend at the local Porsche Gruppe meet for $80 I guess it was a good deal because the back of the book says 79 euro.
