Please help with fuel pump issue after rebuild!

This afternoon I finally installed my rebuilt engine into my '79 SC. I hooked everything up and and circulated the oil. Repeatedly, the engine fired up then died immediately. After much inquisition I realized that the fuel pump was not delivering fuel to the injectors and the cold start valve must be causing the engine to fire up initially. I then opened the fuel pump relay and put a piece of paper between the moving contacts to essentially keep the contacts where they are before the key is turned. The engine now fires up and runs great. Please help me identify what is wrong with the car.

Many thanks.

Sounds as if you may have a short somewhere... or your pump has failed, but not totally and delivers gas on start, but then fails. My best guesses so far.

Best regards,

Michael

PS: you could put 12 volts on the pump and check to see that you are getting fuel on all injectors. You will need 7 spice bottles to catch the gas.
