'82 SC 9.8:1 CIS; Stock ROW motor
Ok... 1st the starter didn't work so got that rebuilt. Then the fuel pump was shot, so I got a new one of those along with some hose... that works now.
Best regards, Michael

Fuel delivery pressure.......
Michael,
Check your fuel delivery pressures. Since you said you have ignition (spark) at correct timing (???), good compression, and fuel with metered air, the motor should start or run. I like hook up a CIS fuel gauge during initial start-up of my motor/s. Double check the ignition timing. There were several instances were people inadvertently set the timing 180° off. Compression is easy to verify. And confirm the fuel pressure is sufficient so the fuel injectors make uniform spray pattern (mist). Keep us posted. Tony |

Initial start-up.......
Michael,
Turn your ignition switch @ RUN or ON and check if you have power at terminals #87a & 86 of the FP relay socket. Make sure that both terminals have power. No power when ignition switch is OFF. Next, check that #85 (FP socket) is grounded. With the ignition switch off, test again #85 for ground but this time lift up the air sensor plate. With the air sensor plate up, there should be NO GROUND @ 85. Please let me know what you found from these tests. Thanks. Tony |

Are you getting anything? Does it sound like it is trying to start? Backfiring?
If so, I bet the dizzy is 180 out. I spent 2 hours trying to start my rebuild a few weeks ago. Turned out that I was 180 off on my dizzy although it looked like it was at TDC. You can pull your left side intake valve cover and make sure #1 is where it should be.

Success!!!!!
It must have been flooded! I looked under and wiped some drips off the headers and they were coming out of an exhaust port and smelt of gas. After that I tested an injector with a glass jar; All was good! So... I figured before I start tearing into it I'd just give it one last collage try. It started to make that cyclical rrrrrwrwrwrwrwwwrrrrrwrwrwrwrwrrrwrwr like it was trying to start. This was different than before!! So I put my battery charger on it that has an extra 50 amp start switch. It took about 20 seconds but she fired up!! I had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it revved. I was so pleased. I threw it in reverse and backed/rolled out of the garage just in case. Then I got stuck in the car as I had forgotten to get anything to keep the pedal down and I was helperless!! Lukily, my muffler was so loud my wife and kids came out to see what all the racket was. I was able to get a piece of wood handed to me and get out to check for leaks... none! YES! She ran for 25 minutes then I pulled her into the garage and drained it. Now I need to set dynamic timing... and drive it! http://www.rhodesign.com/porsche/imgs/Its_Alive.MOV YEEEhaw!!!! Its only been a meager 3 years almost to the day... thanks for all your help guys! Best regards, Michael

Michael,
CONGRATS! I am on mile 90 with my rebuild. Finally got everything running right - what a relief! Wow, acclimated to Florida heat! I don't have my a/c belt on yet and it is brutal here in SC. Not that the a/c does much anyhow. Enjoy and have fun. Cheers, Craig
