72 911 2.4 timing marks, need help!
Hope you guys can help me, I am trying to determine which timing marks are correct. I have two marks/notches on the pulley which are roughly 1/8" apart and are only notched/marked on the top of the pulley. Then there are two more marks on the pulley one has a notch on the top of the pulley and the other is a mark on the entire face of the pulley, again about an 1/8" apart. So I am confused because there is no clear indication to me which is correct.
Thanks in advance! |

On the face of the pulley you should see a "Z1" beneath one of the marks--that is the TDC mark.

Sometimes the Z1 is hard to see due to the angle of sight being blocked by the engine mounting bar and dirt/oil covering the mark. However, try this:
Remove the distributor cap and rotate the engine until the rotor points to the mark on the housing which is for #1 cylinder. Look at the pulley and you should be looking at two notches close together. If not, you may be 180 degrees out, so rotate the engine around to the distributor mark. I believe your car is timed at 5 degrees ATDC so if you see the two notches, the one on the right should be TDC.

Went out an checked again no Z1 mark for sure this is a Euro car so not sure if makes a difference or not. Anyway I did orientate the rotor to #1 and found that the car was timed at TDC so I set it at the 5 degree mark at the left. Thanks!
