Does a quiet 3.6 conv. exhaust exist??

I want to put a 993 3.6 motor in my 1987 Carrera. The major hold up is a concern about how loud the car will be. All the 3.6 conversions I have heard thus far are too loud. Is there a exhaust system with heat that I can use which will give me reasonable db level and not be too restrictive. A stock 993 car with stock exhaust is great! I can even live with something loader. I currently have SSI's with a two in one out MK muffler on my 3.2. This is very livable but I don't want anything any louder. Please help.

What's the problem with using your existing muffler?

Send a message via Skype™ to ischmitz
I use a Magnaflow X-style 2-in 2-out and 993 heat exchangers. There is a glass pack on each of the outputs of the X-flow muffler. It sounds descent and not too loud or agressive.

3.6 transplant

I have seen a car with 3.6L transplant, stock 993 heat exchangers and a M&K muffler moddified to fit these headers. The muffler is a 2 in 1 out design. I asked Ben why he does not make a 2 in 2 out to fit the 993 HE's. He says "The 2 in 1 out is too loud enough" I agree with Ben. It is definitly louder than my similarly set up 3.2L with a M&K 2 in 1 out.

fwiw, My 3.6 w/ B&B exhaust w/ heat is quite a bit more quiet than my 3.2 w/ SSI & MK 2x2.

QSC or s-car-go headers with one of my sport mufflers designed for them are fairly quiet. I think the new 3.6 mufflers M&K is capable of now would fit the bill for you. but make sure you have bischoff HE to start with. I am using them on my turbo engine as well. Mark Give me a call Friday we can talk about options

Now's a time when I wish I had some money. Mark's engine from the top to the bottom is probably one of the best motors in any of our cars. I can't imagine taking it out, but....

FWIW,....We have a special GHL header/heat exchanger made specifically for us to accept any factory dual-inlet muffler of your choice.

IMHO, thats the quietest route for a 3.6.

There was a dude on here that fitted the full 993 muffler setup on his early car conversion. I think he moved the oil tank to make room for the side mufflers and he seemed overall happy with the results - might be worth a search.

I have an M&K 2 in 1 out with 993 HE on my conversion and its pretty loud - I have also had the Magnaflow box similar to ischmitz mentions above and tbh there isn't a lot of difference between them.

I could just scrape into 105 db track days in the UK with both mufflers.

Keep in mind that the gen5 993 mufflers are much quieter then your gen3

I would go with a stock 993 HE, cat and muffler set up. Of course the oil tank needs to be relocated to the front side of the rear right fender.

Good luck getting a bumper to fit over that. Even the turbos have issues when tying to do that sort of exhaust setup though it can be done, it leaves the exhaust hanging awful low

The quitest I've heard is a Full Fabspeed header and muffler setup, note this is not the same as the Fabspeed B&B header setup which is just a Flowmaster cross flow muffler.

To get quiet you need as large a volume as possible, modifing the inlet points of a stock bannana is probably the best way to do it. Steve has some pics at his site.

No problem Bill,
here you go:

- OEM 993 HEs, cat and muffler:

- With a set of headers, cross pipes and 993 modified mufflers:

- With cat-bypass and 993 OEM HEs and Mufflers:

- And currently working on a set of OEM 993 mufflers + diverters, so can make them quite whenever you want to

yes, I have it. do a search (I've lost the pics, sorry) Timmon's headers with heat, two magnaflow 16inch single mufflers joined to look like one large muffler. no restriction, good sound under load, quiet the rest of the time.

Amazing, it was bad enough on a turbo boy. But as I said, the're hanging low
