OK< this is quick and dirty (took about 10 minutes in paint and powerpoint... but that is all I have to work with. Kind of gives me alittle better idea of where I want to head with this anyway... Still can't get the shell to look worth a C.R.A.P.

Burch,
Is that a photoshop job on the targa bar? Or modified somehow to shorten it? Markus |

Thinking about side view mirrors tonight, among other things... here are the ones I am considering. I have always really like Talbots and am leaning in that direction... what do you think?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Or maybe a set of these in black...

I had some Sebrings mounted on my front fenders (ala 550 Spyder) for a while. Looked great, but couldn't see C.R.A.P. I'll see if I can find some pictures.

Thought about chopping a Targa as well. Could be done easily *BUT* not with a back window I wouldn't think. I understand making a stock Targa backlight fit is already very difficult. I think it would be nigh on impossible with modjob. Could probably put together a decent zip-out job though. and if you did it right, you could keep targa top functional.
Interesting photoshop, food for thought.

There's a guy in Ohio that sells a plexiglass rear window for Targas. I don't know if the glass window is structural or just fills the space. But a plastic window would be the way I would do it.

does anyone know if the plastic (lexan, etc) windows are legal on the road? Mainly wondering about the windshield...

one more question, for those in the know...
how difficult is the stock cabriolet windshiled frame to remove. Sorry, my car is not here and I cannot really look it over. I am trying to remember if the windshield frame is integrated with the cowl, or if it is something that could be removed if needed (either unbolt or de-weld)? I am asking just to get my mind right about wanting to cut up my first year cabriolet.

Not to belabor it, but you are meaning at the base of the cowl, right?

Been thinking more about my windshield and after talking to someone at GT Racing, I think I will take the Polycarbonate route. Has anyone had experience using these as far as modifying (cutting, drilling)... My current plan/idea is to cut my windshield frame, cut the stock size polycarb windshield, and use screws to fasten it in place (with a seal and metal hold down piece). At this point, I am thinking I will chop the frame in a way that the top is reattached, and then use a targa top that would attach to the attached by normal means to the front, and then some sort of mount would be fabbed to attach it to a double hoop roll bar in the rear, and then modify the rear of the targa top so that I can use the rear section of a stock cab top by means of a zipper attachment (to teh rtarga top)... if taht makes sense. Still working on the concept, but I think it could work. I still am thinking zip-in side curtains as well. May use the polycarb side windows (cut down a bit) as well.
Someone, by all means, tell me if I am not thinking straight on any of this. I would rather "measure twice and cut once". Also, I need someone with a real speedster to measure the distance between the doortop to the top of windshield (where the top windshield corner intersects perpendicularly to the door top). I need to make sure I can fit my bald head in this thing when all is said and done!

I would be really careful with how you want to proceed. Someday, people may come looking for '83 cabs.

I think I'm following you. Cut the window frame to the shape you want and the screw the plastic window to the front of the frame. Will you leave the window frame attached to the cowl? Do you plan to rake it back?
Also, with your side windows. Have you considered replacing the glass side windows with perspex, with the perspex cut down to the shape and size you want? You could retain the stock winders that way.....although in my version of the car the doors would be gutted empty. I'd use the car in dry weather only, and even if it did rain I wouldn't have enough of an interior to worry about getting it wet. But hey, it sounds like you're a whole lot more serious than I am about building this thing so don't listen to me.

I have 160k on the clock already and she is starting to really need a respray on the front end (rock/sand chips). I would like to think my car will appreciate but trying to be realistic as well. Love to hear more thoughts on this before I make the first cut. Still in planning stages so there si time to discuss and bring me to my senses!
