Piston Squirters

Gentlemen,

Need some guidance.

In process of rebuilding 73 911T 2.4L. Have cleaned entire case with exception of piston squirters.

Have been able to blow small amount of air (at 120 psi) thru some of the squirters, and have placed a .034" tip through all 3 with no resistance. I have filled 3 of the cavities with brake cleaner, and then pressured up the backside, trying to get brake cleaner thru the squirters.

I have only been able to get one of the squirters to spray at all (of the 3)

Can anyone tell me the size of the piston squirter hole, and what to do next?

I have tried air on both sides of the squirter as well.

Thanks

Jon

Its just a fine spring and ball, should open at around 20 or so lbs, let them soak with some oil based cleaner, try your best to isolate/plug the oil passages so you get direct pressure to only that squirter. Be careful poking around in there so not to damage the spring inside. I have even hooked up a vacuum pump and pulled vac which will help to pull crap out rather than jam it in harder with air pressure.

My bet is that you still have some gum inside them. Soak then in some Berryman's for a few days. Maybe try an ultrasonic cleaner?

I had exactly the same problem, and nothing did the trick until I tried Sea Foam. I used no more than few drops into the squirter passage, and waited a few minutes before hitting it with the air again. I was amazed. I picked up a can at the local auto store.

Check Chris' post on this page to be sure you're blocking everything properly...

Chris' Piston Squirter Instructions

I had the same issue you are having, as a last resort before drilling out the 3 recalcitrant squirters I bent some safety wire into a "j" shape and "twirled" it around in the clogged squirters while soaking them in brake cleaner and then with INOX (ie PB Blaster or Kroil.) That freed up the last 3 of them no worries. Just be gently fishing around inside the squirters.

The combination of soaking with brake cleaner to dissolve any gunk, the INOX to lubricate the internal part and agitating them with the wire did it. If you screw it up, its a last resort anyway so you can then drill out/replace/stake a new one.
