Bay Area, California-Need Electric Shop Recommendation

Hi Guys,

To my dismay I returned after a week on the east coast, to find that the wires in my car have been chewed up by mice! The damage is all up front. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good shop. Since I'm covered by insurance, I can afford to do it right. Thanks very much in advance!

Brett

"Since I'm covered by insurance, I can afford to do it right."

Perhaps, but your insurance company may balk at the cost of OEM Porsche wiring harness replacement sections if replacement is what you mean when you write "doing it right".

I only meant that, I would be able to take it to a shop that would do the job correctly. However, I'm not sure what that would involve. I would think that some of the work would involve replacement. Im not too familiar with wiring but I would expect that replacing a harness would be easier (and possibly) cheaper than hunting down and replacing wires one by one? At this point I will be getting estimates and proceeding from there.

Tom Martenot's place is probably closest to Orinda. Pacific Performance is another. If you are willing to travel, I can recommend some great places in the South Bay and on the Peninsula.

Use a place with a good reputation with PCA. There are quite a few.

I will also check with my friend up in Orinda if you'd like. We are still working on his race car so I may be up there in the next weeks or so.

How much damage is there?

Thanks alot for the replies.

Looks like the damage is localized to the front of the car in under the hood. Alot of damage to the wiring around the instrument cluster, tach, gauges, interior lights etc. All thin wires. I suppose this gritter couldnt eat through anything thicker than 1 mm or 2

yeah, traps are on my list. actually, mothballs are supposed to be very good at deterring rodents. they hate the smell and wont go near them. ironically, i used this when i was living in the Santa Cruz mts and never has a single problem. somehow, here in orinda, i let my guard down, but never again. i recommend mothballs to anyone who keeps their car outdoors in wooded areas.

With difficulty, I made myself look again at the damage. Good news is that it is pretty much localized to the instrument cluster, behind the speedo. They will probably have to pull the dash and rewire the instruments. Does anyone know about this?

Thanks very much for all the shop suggestions. I think I am going to try Tom Martenot at Deutsche Motors in Concord. PCA recommended and nearby.
