Of Greens and Greys...

I have been thinking all weekend about potential colors when I repaint my cabriolet. I am wanting to do a speedster-esque project build and was thinking orginally a black, with orange or red-orange highlights in interior. I have another route I am looking at now. My thoughts on my project are to strip the car down to basics, even interior. I am still thinking of a red for the interior (like the ox-blood red - I think that is what they call it). I was kind of thinking a silver on the exterior, but now after looking at emptyo's car again, I am thinking some sort of grey... I am thinking I want a cross between a grey and the Porsche olive green.

With this in mind, what colors should I be considering on the drawing board?

Thanks,
Shane

That color Steve McQueen had on his 911S and 930 would look great with an ox blood interior, a dark warm grey.

I prefer a blue-tinted gray matched against wine interiors, something like a heron gray.

As a member if the BGFC (beige-grey fan club) I have to toot my color
It does have a hint of green under certain light, more a light moss sort of green, if it makes any sense.

One of my favorite color combinations is the early (1967) non-metallic slate gray with a red interior. I haven't seen a later car in that color gray, but I bet it would look great.

Yeah, right now I am thinking the early slate grey is a good direction to go in... like this one ( I think this is slate grey). Could someone photoshop the wheels to be all black, and maybe all black with just the polished cap?

Shaun, do you have an example of the actual color, or is that it ( I just remembered you said you like a blue tint)?

Shane, FWIW the later slate gray has a metallic finish, the early slate gray is a non-metallic paint. I prefer the non-metallic version personally.

Or maybe someone could turn this one slate grey instead of black?

I am just finishing a slate gray 911T 72. With Black interior.
Sure looks great. Wish I have the red interior.

I agree, I am not looking for a metallic... I just reread emtpyos thread and had my memory jogged about a thread where he discussed the greys. He was looking for a lighter grey. Found some nice examples of grey though.

That was what I came up with at the time, just made it up, though I'd look in my new pantone color book now. With a new monitor, it looks too blue now. But a color book has absolute standards.

That's a nice looking grey Shaun, and would have turned into a very nice looking project, I am sure.
Personally, I find the non-metallics to have more depth and richness of color.
Chris Nielsen's ST is a very nice blue, due in part to the mixture of grey that inhabits it.
I also tend to discount slate grey, until i watch the opening sequence of Le Mans, again and again and again

here are some basic ideas (using emptyo's car as an example). I cannot figure out a decent way to add the speedster hump as I only have MS Paint to play with. Maybe someone could make this gray more of a slate grey. If someone had teh time, it would be cool to see the Porsche side graphic on this also in some color that is close to an oxblood red (brown-red).

How about Granite Green? Sometimes it's green, sometimes it's grey...go figure. Nevertheless, nice color, but what do I know...
