911 airbox replaced

i just brought a airbox for a 77 911 2.7engine, and does anyone have a short cut on replacing one. It looks like the intake tubes have to come off the bottom side of the boxs , i am hopeing theres some tricks out there to do this job, when i got the car it had a popoff valve in the box but was laying inside not glued in so i glued it in but i still have alot off trouble starting the car, i am thinking the boxs needs to be replaced cause theres alot of screws stripped out in side the box, i did a compression test and they all avg, around 120-135 psi, i want to set the valves also, but i am so wondering about this airbox

no trick. remove the entire unit complete, intakes and all. account for every washer and nut so none go down an intake. swap out the box by disconnecting only what's necessary, leaving as much stuff connected as possible. in other words, don't get carried away removing each separate item from the cluster, just pull it off the box and let it lay. flip it upside down and remove the old box , lay in the new one and start reattaching stuff. double check down the intakes before reassembly. some folks like to lower the engine a bit, but it's not necessary.

The stripped screws you found are a definite result of the box having a backfire. I would suggest doing some tune up work on the engine before you blow the new one. Check your new one to see if the seal is good all around the base where the screws you mentioned go.
