Question Factory short shift kit fit in 73?

All the ads for the factory short shift kit say 74-86. I assume this means 915 to G50. Will the factory short shift kit fit in my 73? Is there a special application for the earlier 915s? Thanks.

There are 4 generations of shift mechanism for the 915 transmission
  • thru 72
  • 73-74
  • 75-84
  • 85-86
though there were some common parts. Specificly the lever from 75-84 was the same, the housig from 73-76 was the same, the housing from 77-86 was the same. To install the M241 factory short shift lever in a 72 the whole late style 77-86 housing also is needed, for a 73-76 the kit will fit the stock housing but the full benefit will not be derived unless the later housing is also used.

The most desireable 77-86 housing has part # 911.424.019.06, the factory ss part # is 911.424.931.00
