YouTube videos of Porsche Factory
i found a link to this series of videos on the German YouTube website. they are videos of the manufacturing process of the Porsche Factory in the 60's. Fascinating to see all of the handwork that went into the early cars.

Wow! That is SO cool. I was expecting the narration in German, but happily surprised that it is in English.
Have you seen "Victory by Design"? I saw it on Google Video. It is a very cool video also... Thank you for sharing!

Thanks very much for sharing that series of 5 video clips. I found it interesting to note the differences in production methodology....the redundant activities that have since been consolidated, the inattention to "motion economy"....the lack of safety gear like goggles or breathing filters ...a lot of hands in between stamping and tooling machinery required a focus and attention to what you were doing....those were truly "made by hand". Great piece of historical information.

I like this shot, factory finished car park, notice factory bumper bar on the yellow T. Circa 1972

Here is another. It looks like they tried to organize the inventory by color.

Rick,
From time to time, someone will post a link to some Porsche manufacturing videos. These were absolutely incredible and the best I have ever seen. Thank you for providing the link. It would be interesting, simply as a comparative measure, to see how automobile manufacturing was occurring during this same era in the US.

That "Made by Hand" film has a lot of interesting and informative details.
Check out near the end of part 2 for the demonstration of how a windshield is roped in. Paying attention 911 owners? In the middle of part 3, a woman shows how the factory cc'd engine heads with a burette. Good stuff. Brian

Great film...and it definitively shows how to pronounce "Porsche" correctly!

I wonder how much money all the special tools are worth now!! Notice that some components were welded in during sub assembly, no wonder we pull out our hair trying to figure out how to repair these cars. A truly hand made car, Thanks!!
