Difference between 911 & 944 Fuchs

I'm looking at a pair of 15x7 Fuchs off of the front of an 80s 944 with a 911 part #. The seller states they are original to the car and the offset appears to be the same as the 911 version. The one difference I do see is that the valve stems have an aluminum guard/shield on them that are actually part of the wheel. I performed a search and could not find a thread differentiating between the two. Can someone enlighten me as to the differences, if any? Thank you

Thru '85 944 used 911 o/s wheels.

all the 7x15 wheels have 911.XXX.XXX.XX part #s and have ET23.3, 8x15 will also have a 911 part#, 911.XXX.XXX.XX w/ ET10.6

the 7 & 8 x16 is where the differences start to appear.
7x16 can have either 911.XXX.XXX.XX part # or 951.XXX.XXX.XX part #s, they both have ET23.3, but the 951 version has more room behind the spokes for bigger brakes

the 8x16 also can have either 911.XXX.XXX.XX part # or 951.XXX.XXX.XX part #s, but the ET will be different. 911 have ET10.6, 951 have ET23.3

944 and 911 Fuchs can be different; Bill said it best.

Post the Fuchs number from inside the wheel and we'll tell you what it is.

That's the beauty about Fuchs: The numbers tell the story.

It's a long number and the little Fox face is close by. (Fuchs = Fox)

The numbers on the back of the wheels read: 911 361 202 41 and here's a pic of the valve stem guard.

The 944 16x8 inch wheels are nice since they fit perfectly as rears under a narrow-bodied 911. That makes them desireable and drives their prices up.

How about a NoBadDays DualChip for 964 or '95 993

From the pic of your Pcar it looks like you have 16X8 front and rear, or do you have 8s in back and 7s up front? Also I have seen other posts indicating that 16X7 works fine as rears under a narrow-bodied 911, nothing about 8s working in the rear??? Reason I ask, I have a 1976 911S 2.7 that has 16x6 all around and I'm curious as to how much of an improvement one could expect to with 16x8s or 16x7s on the rear or all around. Also, what's the camber on your rear/front?

Regards,
76S

Mine has 7x16's in the front and 8x16's in the rear. I like it a lot better than the 16x6's all around or even the 15x6 that were stock. The rear has about 2.5 degrees of camber dialed in. And I have 225's on there. Tight, but it fits. And the look is just perfect.

Check the number again.
My list for Fuchs 7 x 15 reads 911 361 020 41 Offset: 23.3

The valve stem guard is there to hold the stem up during high speed otherwise the centrifugal force will bend the stem especially if there is a metal cap on it.

If you want to clean up around the stem hole, remove the small guard and glue it back on after new tires and stem are mounted.

The wheel looks used and has curb-rash.
Anodizing cannot be polished.
Refinishing costs between $150.- - 200.- per and involves stripping the paint, removing the anodizing, re-anodizing and repainting.
The wheel is also checked for true and straight.

I'll recheck the numbers when I get home from work this afternoon. I could have transposed the numbers last night...it was past my bed time.
I thought that you could remove the anodizing and polish, as the anodizing is just a coating. The curb rash is very minor in nature and can be polished out. I went ahead and purchased these two wheels at $150 each. Was that okay? I want to run them on the rear of my 72 911.
Thanks for your imput.

True, the anodizing is a coating.
It can be removed and the wheel can be polished.
Removing the anodizing yourself is agonizing work.

People finish wheels in different ways, some do a full polish, some refinish stock, or plished lip with black center.................

Not sure about the value of a 7 x 15 wheel.

the parts #s for the 7x15 ET23.3 Fuchs are
911.361.020.11
911.361.020.41
911.361.020.93

the valve stem support is not part of the wheel, it is glued on, part # 911.361.531.01

You can use them on the front or rear of a '72(I did), but in the back you will want a ire that i shorter than the 215/60x15 tires that I used or you will get a rub several inches up into the fender, it will burh the paint there. 205/60 and probably 225/50 should work ok.
