Insurance; how much do you pay?
My car is 24 years old now and it seems that classic car insurance starts at 25. It's not quite a garage queen but I only take it out once or twice a month (less than 3k miles/yr). I'm paying about $900/yr and think it's a bit steep for the amount of use. Just wanted to ask what others are paying for classic car insurance for their 84 or older cars and if anyone knows a better way to insure the occasional driver.

I was told by my insurance company Not to go with the classic car insurance. They said the rate was higher and there were restrictions on milage. (Not an issue for you @ 3k) I think my insurance runs just under $300 every 6 months for full coverage insurance. $250 Comp, $500 Col deductable... (Insurace carrier is AAA)

I paid 270 every six months for liability and comprehensive. Carrier is State Farm. Yeah too much restriction on classic insurance even though I drive the porsche less than 2000 miles a year.

Thank goodness neither of you live in Ontario Canada. It's considered to be one of the most expensive places to insure automobiles in the industrialized nations. I have a spotless record for over 23 years and I'm paying $94.00 per month (no collision & no deductable) to keep costs down, on a 1982 911 SC. I used to live in the US & loved paying less than $600.00 FULL coverage around 2003 in south Florida for a 1998 Lotus Esprit Turbo S4S. It really sucks here when it comes to insurance, my girlfriend has been driving for 2 years (no incidents) & she's paying $145.00 per month on a 1995 Corrolla! Just ask anyone in Ontario how they feel about car insurance & you'll probably get a "not so pleased about" the rates attitude.

I have collector plates on mine,no restrictions on mileage but not allowed to drive to work or school at all and must have another vehicle insured in my name. The cost is $350 per year with all the bells and whistles.

If you are driving your Porsche(s) less than 5000 miles per year, it makes more sense to have collector car insurance.
For my 82 SC garage queen & 70E which average about 2000-5000 miles per year I pay $650 total annually thru Hagerty Ins. Agreed value coverage, 5000 mi per year. Both cars are currently insured for more than the current market will bring me if I had to sell.

I agree it does pay to shop around. Rates are based on many factors, age, driving record, credit rating, where you live, rural vs city etc.. What one pays in NJ will be different that what one pays in CO.
I was with Leland West for many years, for my SC I was paying over $500 annually for 1 vehicle agreed value.

I am in the same boat as our friends from Ontario. Except that I am in Vancouver and have the use our Provincial Government insurance. No exceptions for my car. I only put about 5000 km on per year, but its modded so it doesn't qualify for collector car. A whopping $1050/year. Canadian of course About 875/yr USD. Have to pay to play I guess....

About $650 CDN/yr w/ Silver Wheel Custom w/ a $32000 replacement value. No mileage restrictions; just can't drive to and from work. Fortunately I work from home.

I am wondering why Canadian insurance is so expensive. I can't imagine that Canadian drivers are worse than USA drivers. No one sues like Americans, so what is the reason for expensive insurance?

$225 per year in Santa Barbara, less than 5k miles per year, Hagerty. And the best part, they will pay full agreed value ($20k) if the car is stolen, burns, or is totalled.

Jeesh...those people at Geico can't even spell Carrera correctly. That's troublesome.
