Found horsepower!

ok so this is weird. Ive been fighting this car for 2 weeks now since I installed a MSD ignition kit. Well I finally got it running good and had plenty of horsepower.
Well get this!

I drove through one of those drive through car washes today. The one that you sit in the car and try to catch all the water coming through the windows while the rollors push your car through the bay. ( I have a convertible)
Well, as it was being washed, the fan belt started sqeeling and the car didnt want to keep idle, so I just kept my foot on the gas a little and made it through the car wash. Typical since the engine top is open to air from the whale tail. happens all the time right?

Well now the car has more freaking power than I have ever had since I bought it 3 years ago! incredible scary power! SO what the heck happened?
Did the wash job free up my emergency brake? who knows? This is weird but fun!

Engines are known to develop excessive horsepower just before they blow up.

Belt let go, so there is no parasitic drag from the alternator / cooling fan / AC.

It probably thought you were trying to drown it so it decided to act right!

You had excess carbon build-up...the water in the intake coupled with revving it broke up the carbon deposits.

I'm with Dueller on that. The water mist was sucked into the engine became steam in the combustion chamber and super cleaned the carbon.....better ignition of the gasses and gas flow.

Mark....

I believe a lack of air would result in a rich condition.

Nothing is for free!!!

Its been discussed here on pelican that the standard fan/alt combo along with the frictional losses of a V belt design will sap 15-25 hp (dyno tested many times) depending on which ratio fan pulley you are running. Get yourself an early pulley with the correct belt and your increased power will remain.
Its also a known power adder to buy one size larger belt and remove all spacers between the pulleys and put them under the retainer cap. This closes the gap in the V and results with a larger overall pulley diameter effectively lowering your fan/alt speed.
I'm fairly certain either your alternator took a crap or your belt is now glazed from the heat build up while it was slipping upon leaving the wash.

I'm with Blackie on this one. My SC coupe is only worth $12K (maybe?) but no way in hell I would put it through one of those 'pull through' car washes, free HP or otherwise.

Glad to hear you got it running right. Also glad to hear that you seem to have found some type of tear in the horsepower continuum. If you chose to disclose the location of this "Car-wash" IE the "Fountain of Horsepower" in VA I would be interested in investing.
