Heater modification what do you think carrera???

I have an 1985 carrera, the heater blower motor in the engine compartment has worn out and is noisey, I took it out to try and repair it and I sure like the engine compartment without it. Heres my idea what do you think? As I have been using my heaters with the motor mounted but unplugged because of the noise, I get heater air just from the engine fan with my automatic heater controll (between the seats) on the lowest setting. It is adequate. I was thinking of making a simple duct set up where the platsic duct was atttached to the fan housing and go straight to the down fitting to the heat exchangers with metal flex tubing. I think if I turn the automatic heater control to a higher setting when needed it will activate the auxiary foot blowers which should cause more air flow as this should give the heat coming from the engine fan a suction boost. I like the engine compartment without the cumbersome blower set up but my wife occasionally likes the heat on. WELCOME TO INPUT THANKS JL

I have been running mine this way, I have a later plastic heater duct that has been massaged to provide clearance for the distributor and then a hi-temp silicone hose run from there into the heat crossover pipe that comes up through the rear sheet metal. The heat when going down the road is usually adequate. The only downside to this mod is that you will lose your footwell blowers. You can take out the control module found on the panel on the LH side of the engine compartment, carefully remove the cover and solder a jumper wire on the reed switch which will bypass it allowing you to use the footwell blowers without the other stuff.

I am probably going to be putting my stock stuff back on shortly, I would be willing to sell the duct and hose I have for a reasonable price. I will try to take a pic or two tonight or tomorrow so you can see what I have.
