Question What is this little Black box? 911SC

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering for quite sometime what this little black box it for? It's in the trunk compartment, under the dash board of a '82 911SC. The car had sunroof, cruse control, power mirrors. Is it part of one one of those systems???

Thanks!
Gene

P.S. Photo used from someone else's post, thanks for that!

I'm guessing rev limiter. I used to know the answer but my memory is failing me right now.

KoenigsTiger,

The "best" way to know is to unplug it and see that will stop working .... :-) LOL

but, if seriously, You might need a wiring diagram ....

That doesn't look like anything I've seen in an SC. It may be a dealer installed alarm.

Gene,

It is the switch that turns off the fuel pump circuit when the engine speed exceeds 6700 rpm.

Thank you Paul!

I looked in the Bentley, but there was no actual picture of the box.

So I guess this is a kind of a RPM limiter. Does the CDI box some sort of a limiter also? Or is this the only one on the 911SCs?

Paul thank you for the other posts regarding CIS, those have helped me out this summer...

Thanks guys!

Gene,

No ignition limiter. The reason is that if you continue to dump fuel through the CIS sprinkler system at 6700 rpm with no fire, the converter life goes out the window.

they can have a wierd failure mode, where they momentarily shut off the pump. repeatedly. they can be unplugged with no performance issues, other than no over-rev protection.

You are so right! The first time that my shop was presented with the intermittent problem it was not exactly an easy, quick, fix!
