Factory Porsche Ducktail identification assistance
Hey gang,
Anyone out there have pics of the underside of factory Porsche Ducktails? I understand there were a couple of different manufacturing methods...any tips on identifying original Porsche Ducktails would help in the event there are not an abundance of pics available. Thanks! Cus

The easiest features to use for the ID a factory tail is the presence of a metal frame and the support the latch is bolted to should be bent 90 degrees upward and terminate in the tail portion. A 74 tail shouldn't have license plate lights the earlier years will.

I bought one today that has a metal tubular frame within the fiberglass with a flat metal section along the lip that has two narrow Hella lenses in it, presumed to be the license plate lights on a pre-74 car...There is a metal bracket that the latch is bolted to as you described...This one, at one time, had the inividual porsche letters across the back of the lid, but the holes were filled in...The letters were in a zip lock bag in the glove compartment...It was on a 70 euro 911T...

By that description it doesn't sound like a correct Factory Ducktail but photos would really help to figure it out. The latch brace is not bolted on to the frame on an original tail.
In the meantime here are some photos of the real deal. '74 Ducktail ![]() ![]() ![]() Some '73 Ducktail photos. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Ok....now keep in mind I just picked this up yesterday and haven't cleaned it up...It came off a 70 euro 911T that someone is parting out ..The rest of the car/frame is rusted to nothing...but I got this with the aluminum grille(w/a 2.4 emplem on it) and the P O R S C H E letters that used to be on the decklid before they were filled...it's not pretty, but it just needs cleaning up...It's definitely old, and definitely for a pre-74 model because it has built in license plate lights...If anyone knows anything about it, please share because it's the only one I've seen like it...Thanks, CC

Yeah it sure does look old and nothing like the production Factory ducktails. Can you post more photos of the top of the tail, like from the side and back? Thanks.
