Engine start
Hello
Friend of me has also bought a porsche (to restore) It's a porsche 964 from '91 plastic air intake The car stood still for 7 years in a barn, no historic known. Engine looks dry on the first sight. Whats the correct way to start the engine? They told him to remove the sparks, spray some WD40 into the cylinders (wait for a day so the WD40 could do his job), put new oil into the engine (0w40 Mobil) .... en start... Is this the correct way? All help is welcome |

WD-40, no.
I would try lubricant further up on the quality scale, something like Marvel Mystery Oil. Rotate manually first and make sure there isn't any collision damage within nor interference from corrosion. Fuel will be spoiled and probably won't start without a drain, flush and a filter change. Crank engine with plugs removed and plug wires grounded. If okay thus far, reinstall spark plugs, check for spark, then go for it. Have a helper and fire extinguisher handy in case a fuel hose has died. Sherwood |

Hello 911pcars for the info.
The oil you mention is not for sale here local. Can you damage the engine by using WD40? How to remove any corrosion on cilinderwals,..? Thanks Porscheke |

ATF (automatic transmission fluid) works well too if MMO isn't available. WD-40 is a low quality, kerosene-based "lube". Save it for low-tech lubrication functions around the house.

Hello
Friend of me discovered meanwhile that there is Mobil 0W40 used in the engine. Is it also possible to use this oil? I think this oil is "lower viscosity" then ATF oils Regards Porscheke |
