cayman drive
Drove a cayman today. Not a full-out test but it was very nice. Though I like my '87, there is really no comparison. And I am fine with that, its 21 years newer. Just think how far PC's have come in the same amount of time.

I've driven a Cayman S several times on the track. At speed, it's a really nice car. Super easy to drive, very forgiving, and quite comfortable. Only minor issues I encountered?
Bottom line: I'd buy one.

In some ways, it's more fun than a 997 on the track.

First Cayman I ever saw was at a PCA autocross. Brand new. It puked coolant out of a plastic fill cap / container that looked like it came right out of a Chevy Cavalier. That turned me off ...

Secondly, how many ways can you design a plastic coolant bottle??? THey are all going to look pretty much the same. |

There are plastic parts on the older cars that don't look much better, agreed. (Air cleaner lid on the CIS 911 comes to mind). It was just the combination of those things on a brand new car that did not make a good impression.
On a positive note, a lot of people started buying used Caymans for track driving and those cars are tough to keep up with. Never saw any of them with issues either. I think in 10 years the Cayman will be a fantastic value. George Last edited by aigel; 01-22-2009 at 10:00 PM.. |

My wife's Cayman is an amazing machine - and I've tracked it a couple of times. It's stupid-easy to drive fast.

The Cayman is a cool car. The M96 engines are okay, but I'm really looking forward to diving into the new engines with Direct Injection. I think that these newer engines will be much better than the older ones...

I have a 87 Carrera and a Cayman S. Defiantly two totally different cars. The CS is fun to drive, very comfortable and forgiving. The 911 has more of a raw feel, much more difficult to drive let alone drive fast. It is nice to have the option to drive both.
