Rocker Arm Removal
Wayne's rebuild book says to remove rocker arms through the narrow flange on the cam tower. I really don't want to pull the timing chain cover and housings off and have to retime the cams. Is there a problem with pulling the one or two shafts out through the thicker flanges? This is an old photo. My heads towers are still on the motor. Thanks.

I am referring to #1 and #4 when I say one or two shafts. For example #1 exhaust can't come out through narrow flange with chain housing installed.

It does not matter which side you pull the shaft through, they're dimensionally identical as the shafts are too.

the issue is the dirt and corrosion that collects in the thick side. clean it out first before removing the shaft.

I got it. I hit it just hard enough with a hammer in the opposite direction it needed to come out to free it up, then was able to get it out the other direction.
