Need to Kill an Afternoon in San Diego...
I am flying into San Diego for business tonight and not leaving until Friday. My plans have moved around a little, so I now have Thursday afternoon open and looking for something to do. Is there any can't-miss things in So Cal for a Porsche fan to check out?

spend your evenings in the Gaslamp District near Downtown. Other than that, the usual stuff...beaches, Zoo, Sea World, etc.

The USS Midway museum is cool - if you are into war planes.

If you have a vehicle, head up to Temecula area for some nice back roads, indian casino and wineries. Depending on time of day travel time it will take 1-2 hours from downtown SD north on the 15 freeway.

Of course, there's always the Automotive Museum in Balboa Park. You can't miss Balboa, you fly over at ~200' on your way into SDiego. Always fun to watch people's faces as you fly between the buildings into Lindberg. . .

No stop in San Diego is complete without a visit to Autobahn:
http://www.autobahnparts.com/about.aspx?sm=18 I see you have an '84 Carrera, you need to go out to El Cajon, it's 15 miles east of downtown SD. Mark

Do NOT cross the border. It's a war zone.

If you like sailing, call these guys and sail on an America's Cup boat around San Diego Harbor.

Awesome feedback, thanks. Unfortunately, weatheron the east coast screwed up flights and my flight out of Atlanta was delayed, so I missed my connection into SD. . No big deal, trip has been re-scheduled for 2/11 - I will pick up where I left off then. Thanks for the feedback.

+1 on the MIDWAY. Very cool.
It'll still be there in February. |

Between the zoo, Aerospace and Automotive museums, you can spend all day (plus some) in one spot (Balboa Park). And, in the evening, go see what's playing at the IMAX theater/planaterium.
However, if you're single, screw it and head for the beach (Mission Beach/Pacific Beach). Last edited by DasBoot; 01-29-2009 at 08:16 AM.. |
