The new GT3

http://www.porsche.com/microsite/911gt3/usa.aspx

No DSG! I think that's a good thing. Adaptive engine mount system is pretty impressive, but does it work?

They throw the word "lightweight" around quite a bit, but with an option like "conventional halogen headlights" to save weight, I think it may actually mean something.

Look at those centerlock wheels. I heard that European market Turbo was being offered with the centerlock option in 2009 but it certainly suits a GT3 better.

PS also note the option for front suspension lift. It's not just the Lamborghini thing anymore.

Looks great, I am curious about the details of the engine, dry sump etc. Also, adaptive engine mounts and auto raising ride ht dont sound very lt wt....Interesting they dont just list the curb wt.

They do list curb weight- the "technical data" tab at the bottom.
3075 lbs, so a claimed +5 lbs from the old one (which was much heavier than claimed, so who knows what it really is). Looks like a version of the old motor, not the new street block. I also don't see a sunroof in those pictures. Not bad...

Thanks Pete I did not see that. I thought I read in Auto Week that the GT3 line would have an adaptation of the street motor, maybe that is next year.

I want as many versions of the GT1 motor out their as possible so if the price ever comes down to where I can afford one there will be parts out their that dont require a second mortgage :-)

I hope they adapt the PDK to the GT3 line but with proper paddles one day.

That's what everyone said.
Frankly I'm a bit disappointed about the motor- no direct injection, lower specific output than last year. It should be bulletproof (one would hope), but I'd think that should be a given...

I'm sure the low specific output is artificially limited in the software. That's been Porsche's strategy for decades to upsell their cars. With the new Variocam on the exhaust, and using the same specific output of the 3.6, this 3.8 should be somewhere between 440-450 hp. I wouldn't be surprised if that becomes the advertised hp in the 2011 or 2012 model year, and/or the RS.

I was wondering $ too....10% more than the 08 GT3?

The idea of the center locks is really cool - though not the best looking wheels I have ever seen. I wonder if there will be a lot of center locks now in high line sports cars, i.e. the Ferrari 360 scud and the more foccused lambo. maybe the Japanese makers in the the GTR or similar?

I hope so it would be fun to watch the escalation :-)

I wonder if they will even bother with the RS? I thought I read that the RS will be back but this seems pretty focused?

I still think the tailights look stupid. Like someone melted them and they are starting to droop. Other than that, very nice.

notice the indicators in the front bumper. Retro long hood look. Recent spy photos allude to the fact the new 911 might be sporting a homage to the long hood.
