smoke when accelerating during a right turn lean

do this sound like an oil pump going?

Thanks! does that mean 'rebuild'?

john walker's workshop 01-28-2009 06:40 PM

try keeping the oil level one quart low.

A few questions;

- Is it only under acceleration, or does it do it under decel?
- Does it only do it during a right hand turn or both directions, what kind of turn, hard long sweeper, etc.
- What year and engine 911?
- What colors the smoke?

WIL84911 01-28-2009 07:03 PM

happens only during acceleration on long hard right hand sweeper. engine is an 84. smoke appears to be white. intake/exhaust ports looked good from a recent plug change/SSI installation.

oh and oil level is just above the dipstick mid range. are you saying drop it some more?

carrera turbo 01-28-2009 07:47 PM

dumb question but is the tire rubbing?

john walker's workshop 01-28-2009 09:00 PM

mid range oil level as well as a restrictor in the hose between filler neck and intake. the restrictor is stock, but sometimes they're missing.

WIL84911 01-29-2009 06:23 AM

carrera turbo, tire rubbing probably not an issue as there's more than enough clearance and I can actually see the smoke coming from the tailpipe area. thanks.

John, will research into the restrictor issue. Thanks.

I had the same problem. It was too much oil - need to start by dropping a quart or so...The oil is getting in the air box. Check the box to see if any oil is in there too! odds are there is.

WIL84911 01-29-2009 08:26 AM

thanks c01! based on feedback I believe too much oil might be the root cause. where is that airbox by the way?

john walker's workshop 01-29-2009 08:45 AM

3.2s don't have one.

WIL84911 02-25-2009 12:07 PM

OK I've dropped oil to almost at the lowest point of the dipstick. Smoke is less but still there during hard acceleration. Can I drop some more? Any ideas why this is happening after an SSI install? Could it be because I stayed with the stock oil lines? I had the SSI installed away from home and when we found out we were missing oil line parts we decided to force fit the existing oil lines.

I think this may be a big part of the problem. Started puffing blue smoke and I had to stop. Needed piston rings & crankshaft bearings. In other words $10K worth of fixes (Grrrr!!!!).

Still waiting to get it back. I've been in withdrawal mode for the past 30 days.
