LWB 911R, weak sauce?

I was thinking about my next project and there is several ratty SCs for sale cheap in the SE. I just love the look of this car, which I believe is based on an SC or carrera body.

If I built a Light weight SC that looked similar to this would it be really difficult to sell when the time came? Would I be better off with a mid year with no hips?

I was thinking:

15x7,8 fuchs
FG front and rear back date bumpers
FG or metal back date fenders
Lt wt interior, new headliner
SSIs
Remove everything not absolutely necessary, I mean a real stripper.
R hinges and screens
lose the sunroof
R tail lights
Some period looking seats.
white with black decals (not an exhaustive repaint...a good 10 footer)
Fresh bilstiens
Pretty stock motor probably keep the CIS (will an SC with SSI pass emissions in SO Cal?)
Probably weld up the gas cap and add a center fill to the tank.

Not a lot of exotic OEM parts or even suspension work, lowering with the lt wt should work well with stock T bars,

An R group car for sure but would people be appalled by the LWB and rear flares
and not consider owning it?

Would it be worth $20K if the motor was healthy?

Well there's definitely benefits with using the SC as your base. Their proven reliability, power brakes, light weight (although not as much as a long hood). If you get a 78 or 79 you'll end up with the large port engine, which is nice if you're planning on lots of engine mods. The galvanized body is a big plus also. Another thing to consider, if you aren't going to make it as accurate as possible, but shoot for overall speed/handling/etc, is that you can fit a 9 inch wide rim with a 245 tire on the rear of an SC. While that isn't really "period correct" for a 911R, it is nice for added traction.

Oh, and I purchased mine, a garage queen with 33K miles at the time, and nothing major wrong with it (just needs a new turn signal stem and some bulbs replaced) for $16K. You should be able to get a good project car (i.e., running strong but bad paint/interior) for lower than that.

Check this here: 991sc to 911R, kinda

It won't be a "true R look" but it'll still look sweet.

I'd like to do this to my '74 someday.

I forgot about that thread, almost the same question.

At least now I know how I could do the front fenders.
