Anyone paint their fuchs
I was reading some old posts painting fuchs. I was thinking about painting mine silver. If you have some this (especially on a black 911) and would not mind posting some pictures, would appreciate it. Also, how long ago did you do it and how have they held up?
Thanks

Seems like a bunch of guys have done it and used anything from rustoleum to wheel paint. I'm doing a set of 993 wheels currently. 400 grit wetsand, wheel prep/paint cleaner(kleen), dupli-color wheel satin black(2 light,1 medium coat) and 1 coat of dupli-color wheel clear paint. I'll post some before and after's when i'm done. The first one turned out great!

I painted the Fuch's on Cristine 9 years ago, have had 5 sets of tires on them. They were bead blasted , epoxy primed, and finished in aycrilic urathaine ,Glasurit.

Mine were done by Wheel Enhancement to match my yellowbird-yellow car. They've held up well with a few chips, but the car isn't driven much--maybe 3,000 miles a year. If you do paint them or have them painted, be sure to use a very tough paint, like Glasurit. I don't think hardware-store Rustoleum or the like will hold up very well, since it's a high-stress area.

Hey Mike,
The Dupli-Color Wheel paint I used on my Cup wheels worked great. You can get it at Meijer's or any car parts store. You ARE thinking about just the spokes, right? Let me know if you need any help.

The wheels in the Excellence article are the same versions of Cup wheels I had on the car for a while.
original silver color and then I painted them graphite and then back to silver and then I sold them. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Paint Fuchs? Isn't that sacrilegious? I never claimed to be a saint....I used Rustoleum Semi-gloss on mine...

I rode two sets of WE wheels for 90k street miles. One set brand new to me, other started new to a LA street guy. I rode brand new wheels painted with a weaker paint for 2k miles from another popular guy. I presently have installed the weaker paint job. WE must use some kind of urethane as the weaker wheels will chip if I'm only clunking around the area with a wrench. The WE wheel may scratch, but it won't chip unless it takes a big blast. when the time comes I'll shoot them myself with some polyurethane Imron, although acrylic urethane would be almost as good. Unless it's a two part paint it won't be good enough. Adding 5-10% universal hardener to something like Chroma-base would be a waste of time, I think. That works ok if it's going under clear. only my personal routine as a spray can job is easy and might be enough for a DIY'er

Do you guys think it would be helpful to put a bit of flex agent in the paint?
Thinking about painting the wheels on Butters this year. angela

Yup, just the spokes. Getting a bit tired of just about everything on the 911 being black. I think silver will accent it a bit. Besides, I need to do something car related. Listening to 911 exhausts on youtube can only get you through so much of winter.

The previous look on my car had 1 colur Fuchs, a bit darker than silver to give a slightly more alloy effect.

If I used Rustoleum barbecue paint I'd hit them with a hair dryer 1st set on low and go back over them set on high 24hrs after shoot. That should make paint harder

That looks really good. If I could get mine to look that way, I would not mind the black. The problem is the silver rim around the back. No matter what polish I use, it still looks dull after.

I have painted 2 sets of wheels so far. I painted my Fuchs with 2 part auto paint and 2 part clear. I painted them in 2006 I think. I have been testing how the paint holds up to brake dust and haven't washed the wheels for a year at a time. The paint hold up very well. I bead blasted the wheels first to get the RSR look.
I also painted a set of wheels on my Jetta. I did nothing to prep the wheel except wash them. Then I shot them with a rattle can. I did that a few year ago. They have held up very well also. ![]() ![]()

I had the rims polished by a local wheel repair facility at the cost $100/wheel....The wheels were painted almost 3 years ago......they look just like that picture today....If you have not had the annodize removed from the rims you wont be able to polish them to make them shiney...I use Mothers aluminum polish on mine mainly about ever other time I wash the car....takes about 30 minutes for all 4 wheels....when I am in a real hurry I will use neverdul wadding....

I painted mine last winter. Cleaned them thuroughly, then masked off the outer area of the rim. Painted them with rattle can semi-flat black and they came out superbly. I don't have pictures handy right now, but I can post some later. Definitely made a huge difference.
