value check '80 sc targa
I always check the local papers etc.. for deals and I ran across a 1980 911 Sc Targa w/ 124,000 miles. Exterior looks decent, seller says engine is tip top (PPI should confirm) and his is asking $5000. I normally would pass on a targa but it seems like a very good deal. It is a greenish/blue, fuchs, turbo tail (which I would replace) and all in all, not to bad looking (from pictures). The problem is the seats are trashed. rips all over. Dash not too bad...couldn't see any cracks from the pics...what is something like this worth?

If the PPI comes out good I'd call that a steal. Doesn't sound like you're looking for a concourse car, just a fun ride.
Can you see it in person, or is it a long distance buy? "Exterior looks decent" from a pic can become "what the hell happened" in person. Don't accept that the wheels are Fuchs until you've taken them off the car and found the proper markings. (I'd rather not explain why I'm pointing that out!) If it's not going to be a daily driver, condition of Targa top and seals may not be too important, so you wouldn't have to worry about that. Trashed seats? You can take care of that problem for a couple hundred bucks if you just want something to match the "decent exterior".

Really, pretty much any complete, running, driveable, non-rusted SC is worth more than $5K.
