window regulator bent?

trying to avoid taking out my regulator in a 1980 targa -- any idea if the fix is just bending this arm so the pin stays in the horizontal grove?

i can get full motion in the window if i play with the switch a bit when it gets stuck, but clearly only getting moved by some of the contact points.

because most of the contact points are working i cant clear the track/window to bend this arm easily.

also, when in the full up position, i get a big scrape/clunk as the stop is contacted. any suggestions

ideas?

Looks like you are missing the nylon roller that fits on the shaft in the picture.

that would do it. i dont see them in the parts diagrams - can they be purchased or maybe a close approximation from ace hardware would work?

As a last resort, you may be able to modify shower door wheels available at Home Depot or Lowes.

weld or rivet?

The plastic roller was indeed missing from my regulator arm. Not sold as a part by Porsche but Jeff at Parts Haven supplied me with the missing roller for $10. Now I"m hoping you can tell me how to attach it.

I thought the metal center would be a rivet that could just be squeezed with pliers, but looking at the size and dept of the hole/regulator arm suggests its not long enough to squeeze, and i couldnt get to the other side of the roller without taking out the whole regulator. The old roller looks like it was welded some how.

i dont know much about welding and thought a pan head screw could do the trick but think the center of the roller won't stay still for me

here are a few pics

thanks for your help

this is how the roller on my other door looks - sorry for the blur, the back of the roller has a smooth, rounded weld looking method of attachment

You need a spring steel clip that slide on over the head and clips in. See if parts haven have the complete setup

Looks like the factory part had a longer stem and the install was to "whack" it and mushroom the head. Your replacement has been ground off flush, requiring the McGuyver Touch. Unfortunately my name is Smith.

The delrin wheel looks similar to some screen door/window/kitchen cabinet hardware. Might be worth a trip to the Mega Home Super Center.

Or dremel in a hole for a small machine screw & washer, but I doubt that'd work.
