I'd like to see your ITB EFI set up; please.
I'm looking to convert my 3.2 DME to ITB fuel injection and would appreciate any pics of your system. I've seen one from TWM that has dual injectors, with one placed directly in the trumpet opening; anyone have this?

That would eliminate any type of air filtration, no? NG for anything but show IMO..
|
Gary:
I think there's a filter system that goes over them. jp |
Very cool looking, wonder what the idea is behind dual injectors though..
|
Got me stumped, hopefully someone is using it. I remember seeing a Jerry Woods motor with them..
|
|
Yeah but Jeff, where is the upper rail?
;D |
Jeff:
That looks great, how's the throttle response compared to the stock DME? Who makes your ITB's? What engine management are you running? jp |
Gary
I wanted it to idle and have some low end throttle response...... :) Cheers |
Did you tune it from scratch? Once set, do you need to re-tune regularly?
|
JP,
How does the throttle response compare to stock DME motor? There is no comparison, period. Mind you this motor is not anywhere near stock internatlly either. But response is lightning fast. Puts a smile on my face everytime i touch the throttle pedal. I run a Microtech EFI system with their X6 ignitor box for the coils. Very easy to tune, very stable. Has lots of features I don't use. Many high dollar units out there that are wonderful, but for what I need this one fits the bill. Idles great, no stumble, no part throttle issues etc, and tuned fairly easily on the dyno. Just this week I did some temp map adjustments since we had some colder weather here... Cheers |

It came with a base program. Once the motor was in, I turned the key, and it fired right up! It ran rich initially because the base program was for stock injectors..... I had someone familiar with the system tune it on the dyno. I have since played with the temp maps (when I encountered higher or lower ambient temps) but once that is all set, you just leave it alone. Cheers |
Are you able to program various maps for different atomospheric conditions? Does it use a wide band O2?
|
You can program it via TPS or MAP (vacuum) or a combintation of both. You tune idle, part throttle (cruise) and WOT seperatly. Or you can tune it via rpm/load.It has wideband capacity, I did not get it. Instead I run an LC-1 on each bank and have a digital gauge on the dash.
I was terrified of programmable efi. I nearly put carbs on the motor. But now that I am familiar with it, I love it. If (when) I do it again, I am tempted to try a megasquirt.... Cheers |
Units such as Motec are tuned the same way??
|
Motec, DTA, Haltech etc are all tuned essentially the same way. Check out TROG's thread recently and also DFINK's thread.
TROG put ITB's on an otherwise stock 3.2 and used a tec3. DFINK built a motor similar to mine and also uses (i think) a tec3. there is some really good info in there. My throttle are by Jenvey. They are absolutely fabulous. Beautifully made and well thought out. I pm'd and emailed a lot with TimT here and Bill Rudner of Rudners Racing (sp) and they provided me with a great deal of info even though I never spent a dollar with them and my company has never done any business with theirs. They are haltech experts. If you consider a haltech, call them up. They have built another incredible motor for a client of theirs and mine who posted about it here.... now I need to ask................. What type of motor are you looking to build or what are you looking to get from an ITB/EFI set up? Cheers |
At this point I was considering removing the DME and adding cams to work with the added air flow. A 3.2 should produce some nice numbers with the added flow of ITB's; not to mention the throttle response.

Heres mine fitted to a carrera 3.0 Jenveys,Omex ecu & crankfire, its off to the dyno end of the month and was fitted with PMO carbs

Here is my system. I am running Megasquirt and it will do everything that I could ever want in an EFI system. I installed TWM 3003 46mm ITBs on existing weber manifolds/linkages. Before I built the new motor (thanks to broken head studs) I had the EFI installed on a stock internal 3.0. Throttle response was fantastic. Engine drove easier than it did with the webers it replaced.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1228830152.jpg Megasquirt requires that you start from the beginning with tuning. Someone could probably provide a base map to the the motor started. The rest is up to you. Yes, install a wideband O2 sensor. Its the only way to tune properly. The first time I setup the car it took several days of tuning. The new motor took about 2.5 hours. I tuned it on the street and have fantastic drivability. |
Here's some cycle TB's I put on a Ferrari V8 ... don't think they're big enough for the Porsche motor though.
