Wire Gauges?

What gauge wiring is standard in early 911s? Is it the same as what would be used in late model American cars. I have a few splices to make and I have access to all different colors and stripes to stay consistent but I wanted to make sure I used the proper gauge, etc.

Metric wire size (mm2) conversions to AWG size
0.5 = AWG 20
0.8 = 18
1.0 = 16
2.0 = 14
3.0 = 12
5.0 = 10
8.0 8

Thanks. Do you know the actual gauge used for wiring the taillights?

Muchas gracias for the advice! I was trying to follow a black and white diagram in an old manual that came with the car. Now I can save my eyes for spotting patrol cars over the horizon when I get this thing running.
