Protecting Polished Wheels

I have a set of Braid BZ 7&8x16 wheels with black centers. One of the options for refinishing is to fully polish the wheels and paint the background so that the petals/spokes and rims are exposed. Clear anodizing is a fallback, but I like the polished look. The question is, should the polished surfaces be given some sort of coating? And if so, what works best?

Unless you like to periodically maintain the wheel, I think a protective coat is always preferred to prevent corrosion.

Eastwood has this product, Exo-Armor Clear Coat. I ran across it awhile ago. I asked on a related thread if anyone had tried it - no response.
Exo-Armour High Temperature Clear Coat

High temp., dries clear, looks promising. As in all finishing, prep is key. Want to be a guinea pig?

Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish

I use Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish on the polished lips of my Fuch's and they seem to hold a shine and resist corrosion pretty well.

I use it about 4x per year to really bring the wheels to a mirror finish; soap and water in between.

I use Vaseline. Seems to shine both the polished and black of the Fuchs. Lasts for quite awhile. No signs of corrosion over the years. I use the Vaseline twice a year and wash in between with soap and water.

Mother's. It makes the polished area look like a mirror, easy to apply with just a little elbow grease... gotta wear shades.

I use either Mothers or this stuff that is like cotton but I don't remember what it's called. My wheels get polished about once a month during the summer though for shows.

Actually the wheels hold their shine amazingly. I polish mine with anything at hand about every five years. They look fine.

Eastwood has two product for this application, Sharkhide and Exo-Armour

Sharkhide aluminum sealer and protectant

I will order the Sharkhide and try it on my polish aluminum trims. It may take a while before I gave a review since I'm not quite there with the project.

I'm guessing the cotton wadding is Nevr Dull.

This is what I've known the combo does. Not sure how it applies here.

Not all aluminum to protect is polished. Polishes are typically surface brighteners, not protectants.
Do the products mentioned do both?

Mothers doesn't state that it protects, just that it cleans. I also didn't see where the never dull stated that it protects. I think the best protectant is keeping your wheels clean.

if you do not clear cote them you will always look at them and say "time to polish". if you clear cote them. or better yet let a pro do it, you will always walk out to your car and go Damn that looks good.
