930 Slant Nose Help W/ Running Boards
Hello, I am trying to figure out of there is a seal or gasked that goes between the running boards and the car when they are mounted. I have an 82 Slant nose but the running boards where never placed on it. I have the running boards and I am getting ready to put them on. If anyone can advise me if a gasket or seal goes between the upper connection (below the door). The car in this link looks like it does.
Fikse FM-10 wheels Not sure if it does or not. If someone can help me to figure out how to put them on properly, please do. Or if you can point me in the direction I need to go. Thanks Anthony

Hi Anthony. I have a factory slantnose and had a few aftermarket slantnoses in the past and they do have a seal between the boxed rockers and the body. I don't know the part number. If you don't have to have factory beading some companies offer aftermarket rubber for this.
Pelican may have it if you look in their catalog or call a sales person. Good luck on you car.

I have asked Pelican Parts and they dont have it and was not sure exactly what piece it would be. Do you know what other companies may sell them?

Anthony I haven't looked around any lately. I bought a roll a long time ago and it took some time to use it all up.
I would check with some vw shops like sleepy mentioned. Also I think International Mercantile use to sell it. They sell many rubber Porsche parts. They are in Del Mar, Ca. Link for International Mercantile: http://www.netsv.com/im/

Anthony,
I haven't looked closely at a slantnose but I'm pretty sure that seal might be 930 fender welting. Pelican sells it. I've got a roll of it in my workshop and can get you part number if needed. If you want to stop by and check it out I can give you a small piece to try out. Just let me know... |

Thanks Guys I tried the International Mercantile and he had a message that sounded like he would not be open till March 5. Kaefer if you by chance have the part number would be great. I guess you are saying it can be used for both the fenders and the rocker panels?

The welting part# is 999-911-205-40 it was used on '76-80 930, It comes in 5 m rolls. Unfortunately a quick parts search on Pelican shows the part # as NLA. Perhaps a Google search will turn up a provider.

This is a good time to have a look around at the rubber supplies shops. The beading that I have is about 2-3 cm in depth with a round hollow bead at the top edge. If I was doing it again I would be looking for a strip with a flat top on it. Not a T shape because the side to the body needs to be flat. More or an L shape. Dirt and grit gets caught in the round bead next to the body. The clearance between the door and bead is minimal and can catch, mine did and tor the rubber ( i did not fix it straight away ) A flat bead would be ideal and match with the rest of the rubbers on the body.
Cheers Mark... |
