longs hoods and slant noses
So, does anyone here think that today's long hood and RS conversions are going to be viewed next decade or so the way some see slant nose conversions today?

I always liked the look of a slant nose. I always think to myself when I hear people say they look so 80's that they really look great and slightly exotic. Sorry about the pic theft to whomever owns this pic. I stole it.

No, but that doesn't mean slantnoses won't enjoy their own revival. Both looks are kind of specific to a time period. And tastes change.
But the longhood is the original 911 design. I'd think it'll always command some respect based solely on that.

hey Mark! just answering the question.
![]() Jack said it best. just too lazy to type it all in. the slant nose has a race history, like the RS, and Porsche did offer its own factory version, so I'm not sure why it tends to be frowned upon except that it messes up the classic 911 lines.

you beat me to it, but thats what I should have said. Lots of people like 935s including me, so I think it's natural for me to like the race inspired look of a slant or slope nose, whichever. Plus, I had some wicked rides in one at a very impressionable age when they were "in". Silver with a red interior (is it Cancan?)

I remember during that time (80's) everybody was trying to update longhoods and make them turbo bodied slant noses or just update the look to an impact bumpered car. Longhoods were "dated" looking back then. Just think how many were butchered during that time. Remember that?

Not that long ago Fuches wheels were being swapped for more "modern" alloys...
Now there are 17 inch replicas that really look the business. It makes you wonder about fashion. Like teenagers and tattoos. How long will they look good? ![]() The slope nose look has a style all of it's own. It's like a targa versus a coupe argument. I love the look of all Porsche's. It's great that we have such a selection to choose from. Give me a slope nose turbo (impact bumper), A targa soft rear window (long bonnet) and a Sunroof coup as my ultimate collection. ![]() |

I don't see how converting to a factory production model like an RS or slantnose can be frowned upon, dated or not, the designs are eternal.

Updating and backdating are two totally different things. When you update you are going to a design that has not proven itself to have duration, when you backdate you are going to a design that has established its place in time. So unless the early 911 shape loses its long held historic status I don't see backdates falling out of favor. The slant design did not have duration beyond the 80's, although it may come back.
I would agree with others that slants will again have their day in the sun, but I doubt other than a few nut cases your going to see people updating a longhood to a slant ever again.

I have a 87 factory slant and the prices have been slowly increasing over the last few years. We have a large slantnose thread in the 930 forum.
Slantnose, Slant nose,Slope, M505 factory 930S documents, registry, ultimate, flachbau I love the look of the RS also.

Conversion is the key word in the question. Factory, regardless of the style will always be more valuable than an after-market conversion.

No they won't strictly because its the pure 911 form...
The 930S's (slant nose) that so many people go "ewwww" at are direct descendants of the almighty 935...and the factory examples along with their racing bretheren will come around once again to the center of the stage. There are dog conversions of all cars - botched examples will always plauge the masses however I don't see why so many people here associate a slant nose with any kit car on ebay. Maybe its because the Porsche masses just don't know what a 930S or 935 is...I dunno.
