What wheels will fit my 82 SC?

I am looking to fit my car with some new wheels and was wondering what size and types of wheels would fit my car.

I found these wheels and was wondering if they would fit:

1. Off of a 996 that are 17"x 7 and 17" x 9 with an offset of 55and a bolt pattern of 5 x 5.12 or 5 x 130.

2. A set of 17"x7.5 and 17"x 9 with an offset of 57 and 47 respectively.

3. OEM supposedly for a 911 carrera and Turbo body style 993 7J x 16 - ET 55, rear are 9J x 16 - ET 70

Is there some scale or formula that is used to figure out what will fit whether they are 17" or 16" wheels?

Thanks.

Red,

There are three (3) important data you need for your calculation:

BS (backspace or mounting surface)------This is the perpendicular distance from the mounting surface to the projected edge of the wheel/rim.

OW (over-all width)------ Total width of the rim/wheel (edge-to-edge).

ET (off-set)-----This is the distance of the BS to the center line (OW/2).

Calculation: ET = BS -OW/2

Use this formula to calculate your Fuchs wheels and you'll get the theoretical ET of your wheels. Example:

6" fuchs (911.362.113.00)........Measure BS (121 mm) and OW (170 mm) and your calculated ET is 36. Hope this helps you.

To oversimplify, you can use any Porsche wheel up to 1989 as a direct bolt-up. Any wheels for cars after 1990 can be used with 1" spacers to accomodate their late offset. 7.5 is maxing out the front. Anything over 9" or so in the rear will take exact measurements, negative camber, and limited tire width.

Make that any 911 wheel. The 944 changed offset in 1987 to bigger offset.

If you are looking at 7 & 9 then you want ~ET23 for the 7s and ~ET15 for the 9s

A spacer decreases the ET of the wheel by it's thicknness
ex. 7" ET55 becomes a 7" ET23 when a 32mm spacer is used.

What about the fitment for 17" wheels? Would these fit and would the same formulas apply?

yes, 15,16, 17, 18 all want the same ET. The taller wheel uses a shorter tire, making the whole assembly fit in pretty much the same space and fits in the same place in the wheel wells.

The ETs do need to change a bit as you go to wider wheels/tires than speced
