Carrera Rear Sway Bar Info
So when I dropped my motor a few months ago I became aware that the car has no rear sway bar. The previous owner had repairs made but the drivers side mount has come off again and I gather they just gave it up and removed the thing. At this point I don't know what hardware I'm missing. What is the factory link attachment point on the suspension side? Also, is there a difference between a 915 and a G50 bar in that one will fit a G50 car and one won't? They increased the bar diameter in '87 correct? Is that what people mean when they say "G50 Swaybar"? It's larger but otherwise they are the same configuration? Just trying to get a feel for what I'm going to need to obtain (Aside from upgraded weld on mounts) to fit a rear bar again.

They were 21mm from 86-89, I believe the only difference between the single year 86 bar and the 87-89 version is the shape was a little different to clear the G50.

86-89 rear bars are all 21mm, but the '87-89 g50 bars are a little different to accommodate the trans. You can use a g50 bar on a 915, but not the other way around.
You will need the mount repaired/replaced if that is why it was removed, new bushings, and most likely drop links. Edit: Tom beat me to it.

Broken sway bar mounts (#16 in the parts diagram in the previous post) were a common problem for the '84-'89 Carreras. It happened to mine too. The usual remedy was to weld them back on, but Wevo makes some very nice (and better) aftermarket replacements. You can buy them from our host.

(16) is the improved factory version. It can also be reinforced. Check the archives.
Bolt No. 17 attaches the SB drop link (12) via a threaded hole in the al. control arm. Sherwood |

After you repair the chassis pivot bracket (called the "console" by the factory), why not just get a Weltmeister, Tarett, or Smart Racing rear adjustable bar? It'll come with all the hardware you'll need. Don't get too carried away with the size compared to the front, but a 22mm Welt or the 25mm Tarett set fairly soft will work just fine.
