930 floating rotors

am i correct that for my '78 930, no one except oem supplies replacement
front floating rotors?
am i also correct in thinking that "upgrading" the brakes would lessen the
value of this crusty jewel?
thanks for your time,,,, jp

Option

I know at one time Pelican had them and then when an order was placed they were "not available". I have heard that Vertex Auto may have some stock left if Pelican does not in these floating rotor types. Give them a call and maybe you will be lucky.

At this point you are searching for a warehouse that has left over inventory otherwise Porsche would be your only option as far as I know.

Best of luck,
Bryan

The factory floating rotors are unique to the '78-'79 930's and there isn't a cheaper replacement item. While not cheap, these are available outside the Porsche dealer network. :)

If you make a change to something different that would be more durable, I would still keep these around.

Wrong.

They are still available. Expensive but without a dought the best way to go... nothing to upgrade here.

I believe Brembo make some replacements...304mmx32mm

Part number XA3.33.10/11

Are these rotors compatible with the later (I have an '87) calipers?

Nossir,..those rotors are made for the two-piece floating "flat" hats used on those early 930's.

You have a one-piece rotor that encompasses the hat into the rotor to save cost.

Thanks Steve. I suppose that is one fewer "upgrades" I have to add to my list then. :)

Steve is correct but if you really really wanted you could replace your 930 front hubs w/ 911hubs and then use the '78-80 930 hats and rotors and wheel spacer.

It won't be cheap

Got it, thank you for the clarification. I'll put it on my maybe list!

I am not really sure how,,, i'm not very good at managing my stuff. I now
have: 6 floating rotors, 3 left, 3 right, and a set for the rear. I guess
i'll have to keep the car.
