Question Door won't open from outside

Guys, I know some of you can help me with this. Yesterday, as I was simply opening the door from the outside, something inside the door seemed to pop loose and now the outside door handle release is not working at all. It does not move the latching mechanism on the back of the door. Interestingly, the inner door pull still does its job. The outer door handle mechanism seems to be the problem.

Can anyone steer me in the proper direction as to what I am getting myself into and what to look for and do to fix the problem? It would be nice to actually open the door from the outside again.

Thanks guys.

Very likely, the trigger on the handle broke at it's pivot point - it is a common failure these days. You'll need to pull your door panel so you can pull the two 8mm nuts retaining your exterior door handle. Then remove and inspect the handle - you're likely to see the damage. I just had to do this job on my Carrera. I scavenged a trigger from a junk handle I had lying around. The other option is to buy a good set of handles and transplant your lock cylinders into them.

I knew I'd get a quick response from this forum. Thank you very much Dave. I'm guessing you're right. I'm lucky in that I've got the 964 RS type door panels on my car, so they'll come off quite easily, as opposed to the more substantial stock door panels.

Thanks for the info.

Also, Pelican sells replacement triggers for the exterior door handles for $30!....It sure beats the price of a new handle...

Note that the replacement trigger pin may be a 1/4" longer not allowing the inner mechanism to fully engage. test before closing it up. I had to dremel down the pin to make it work 100%

Thanks for the heads-up because I just put my handle together this evening and re-keying the door to match the ignition...planned on reinstalling tomorrow after I pick up new seals....I'll check that pin!
