Recommendations for stock looking twin outlet exhaust tips .. show us yours...!

Hi,

Recently it was suggested to me that I should replace the oval twin exhaust tips on my car for something less "aftermarket" looking and more inconspicuous and better integrated into the rear end of the car.

The trouble is I am not sure what to look for. The current tips and attached to 2.5" section of pipe connected to a flange plate that mates with a similar flange connected to the side of the muffler. I am looking for some examples of tips to replace mine with.

Any ideas welcome. Here is my car:

What do you think of round tips ?

Perpendicular to the bumper (yours are lateral).

I have a classic sport muffler on my SC... kinda looks like this:

Very stock looking, but not period of course... good sound on my 3.0.

Thanks guys,

I think what I might do is take off the tips and flanges and first get back to the underlying 2.5" pipe off the muffler. Then I think a welded extension of polish stainless 2.5" pipes is the way to go. I think these will be flush or slighly inside the rear bumper outline, and angled parallel to the rear valance. I just want a less "in your face" integrated look. THen I will fit a new painted valance around the new outlets to get more of an OEM look.

If anyone has a picture along these lines it would be appreciated.

RG5.

I used to have stainless tips and -- like you -- thought they looked a little funny. I ended up going with simple, angle-cut aluminized steel (or whatever the pipe is made out of). I like the less flashy look.

Did a bit of work on the car today. It turns out that the tips are screwed to a 2.5" pipe that is attached to a flange that meets the flange connected to the muffller. This seems a lazy way to weld up new tips. Anyway, I previously could not remove the tips as the screw is rusted up. So I removed the tips at the flange plate and drilled out the screw and removed a the tips. This left the shorter section of pipe which I sanded and polished up with Autosol.

This is how it looks. You can re-attach the flange and change the direction so the tip is angled straight out or slightly down. As the pipe is a bit short of the rear bumper I angled it down. It looks a bit agricultural bit it is a start. Tell you, it takes a while to get used to the smaller pipes!!

Chris57,

I think that out of all these pictures, your muffler outlets are the closest to the look I want. I think I will take your pic to a custom exhaust place and get them to cut off the flanges and then put a 2.5" small extension pipe to make it look like your car. Then I will replace the vanlce and cut around the new discreet looking pipework.

All, thanks for all the contributions. Yesterday I had the new tips added. The flanges were cut off and 3" polished stainless pipe was welded to the 3" pipes off the muffler. I think they look OK and fairly inconspicuous which is the look I wanted. Not to bad a solution for around AUD80!

RG5 I like the ones in your first origonal post best, maybe they would look even better if you just cut them back an inch (shorter).

I'm pretty sure it's the 80 Series, part number 389-42582 at www.Jegs.com . It used to be $99, now it $116.
